Transplant Guide

Here's my suggestion for how to transplant either the starter plants (in plugs) or a potted plant in LECA.

Starter Plants: If you've received a starter plant, you'll see that it's rooted in a peat moss plug. A healthy vigorous plant will have roots visible growing on the outside of the plug. Resist if you can the urge to pry it out of its plug unless you do it with surgical precision with scalpel and tweezers. Instead, leave it in it's plug and plant it in its new media. You can locate the top of the plug surface a 1/2" below the top of your media surface.

Potted Plants: If you've received a potted plant, you'll see the plant in its peat moss plug growing in a pot full of LECA. These clay balls provide excellent aeration and can wick water to the roots. Hold the pot with one hand, and with the other grasp the stem and carefully lift it out of the pot. Some or all of the LECA will fall away. If roots adhere to any balls, don't remove them but transplant plug and LECA to your new media. Again you can plant it so that the plug is just slightly below your media surface.

Media suggestion; Here's a basic and well-proven mix that should work for most Aroids:

1/3 peat, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 orchid bark.

This will generate a slightly acidic and well-drained mix that will help your plant thrive!
